We just finished up a sauna hookup for a great customer here in Bozeman, and this one was a fun setup to work through. Barrel saunas are becoming really popular - and for good reason. But getting the electrical done correctly is where a lot of people run into trouble if they try to wing it.
Here's what the job involved: we installed a dedicated disconnect on the exterior wall, wired the sauna heater directly, and added an exterior outlet to power a sauna light. Three separate pieces that all need to work together cleanly and safely. The disconnect is especially important - it gives you a proper shutoff point right at the source, which is a code requirement and just good practice for any high-draw outdoor appliance like this.
The wiring inside the sauna itself required some care. Flexible conduit keeps everything protected and tidy against the cedar, and the connections at the heater junction box are secured and weather-appropriate. Running conduit through a curved wooden structure isn't quite the same as a standard interior rough-in, so it's the kind of thing where experience matters.
We also mounted a gooseneck light fixture on the exterior wall above the sauna. Small detail, but it makes a big difference when you're heading out there in the evening. Everything ties back to that exterior disconnect, so the whole system can be safely de-energized from one spot.
If you're setting up a backyard sauna or need outdoor power run for any kind of structure, we're set up to handle it the right way - proper disconnect, correct wire sizing, weatherproof connections, all of it.
